From September 3: Week 1 – How About Them Chiefs?
The number one item on our list of things to do this week is to bet on Andy Reid. A team’s success starts at the top. In every article, interview, and broadcast we watch, those magic words appear every year: you don’t beat Andy after a bye week. We believe Week 1 is simply a very long bye week since the Super Bowl. Andy is 21 – 3 after a bye. The team will be ready.
Over the last five years, the Chiefs have won the opening game four times. Last year they were upset by the Lions (21 – 20). Kelce was out with a bruised knee and Mahomes threw a pass to Kadarius Toney that was picked off and returned 50 yards for a TD.
The Chiefs return with all their coaching staff, a new punter with a monster leg, as well as a running back who can catch the ball. Throw in Xavier Worthy, their new receiver who can fly, and you have a winner in the Thursday opener against the Ravens.
The Ravens are a real team that can also be at the Big Game in February. They signed Derrick Henry in the offseason and have Mark Andrews coming back at tight end. The real question about the Ravens is the potential impact of losing 14 players from last year’s roster and the glaring fact that LaMar is only 1 – 4 in lifetime wins against Mahomes.
That said, with this week starting off the 2024 season, our Top 3 picks are:
1) KC: If you’re also liking the Chiefs, buy ½ a point and lay – 2 1/2.
2) Philadelphia: Bet on the Eagles to win their division. They are – 120.
3) Miami: We like the Dolphins to win. Their offense is simply too fast for Jacksonville’s defense. The betting line is 3 ½. We will buy 1 point to be under a FG.
Check in with us on Sunday morning: We will be back with our game day lock at 11:00 am.
